Beginnings

Founded  in 1987 the Milton Keynes Irish Centre was formed by 3 existing Groups:
  • The Irish Society.
  • Erin Go Bragh GAA Club.
  • The Irish Dance Society.

All 3 Groups at that time had to hire out sport grounds and halls for their different activities. So the 3 Groups came together to form a unified committee called "The Milton Keynes Irish Social and Cultural Society", and proceded to host fund raising events in order to procure their own premises with an Irish Gaelic football pitch.

After some sterling work by the first Committee and Members they took the keys of a premises in Denbigh, and with completely voluntary work, refurbished the building and officially opened the first Irish Centre in Milton Keynes the following March in 1988.

The first Chairperson was Michael Mullins who now resides in Ireland. Not enough can be said of the local Irishmen and Irishwomen at that time who had the courage and foresight to create something not only for themselves but for future Irish generations. We all owe them a debt of gratitude.

There are many happy memories associated with the Denbigh Irish Centre over the years, and after great voluntary work done by both Members and Committees we have moved to a NEW and IMPROVED Irish Centre in Manor Fields totally "debt free". Now that is an achievement to be proud of.

With the OLD Irish Centre being replaced by the " New Dons Football Stadium ", the Irish have moved on too. With the continued support of its Members the future will have many more happy memories for us all.
